Other convenience features include an electric tailgate, optional LTE module with Wi-Fi and so on.

  • New Skoda Octavia

    The next-generation Skoda Octavia was officially unveiled in November 2019, making its global debut at a special event in Prague, Czech Republic. The car is expected to go into series production later this year, however, India is likely to get it towards the end of 2020 or early 2021. The Octavia is one of the most successful nameplates for the automaker and the car has just entered its fourth generation, which is longer and wider than the predecessor and sports several segment-first features and also gets a plug-in hybrid engine option for the first time.

  • Volkswagen T-Cross

    The Volkswagen T-Cross is also the automaker's first-ever small SUV and will be competing against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Renault Captur among others in the segment. The T-Cross adds to the Volkswagen's growing SUV portfolio as more and more buyers are switching to smaller SUVs instead of hatchbacks or sedans. Globally, the T-Cross will be offered in two versions with the European market getting the short wheelbase version, while emerging markets will get the long wheelbase version. The Euro spec Volkswagen T-Cross is based on the MQB A0 platform and measures 4.11 metres, while the longer version measures 4.19 metres for markets like India, China, Brazil among others.

    The 2020 Honda WR-V gets its first proper refresh since its launch in 2017 and sports aesthetic upgrades along with new BS6 compliant engines. The Honda Jazz-based crossover now comes with a revised front bumper with more creases, new fog lamp housing and a silver skid plate. There's a new grille with multiple horizontal slats replacing the current honeycomb mesh unit. The headlamps remain the same but get LED lights. There are no changes to the profile of the car but could get new alloy wheels. It's not clear if there will be extensive changes to the rear.

    Mercedes-Benz revealed its compact 7 seater SUV - the GLB. The SUV will be positioned between the GLA and the GLC. Yes, there's a third row, but Mercedes-Benz is very clear in stating that the the 2 seats in the last row are optional. The all-new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB will celebrate its World Premiere in Utah in June and will go on sale worldwide later this year. The GLB is 4634mm long, 1834 mm wide and stands tall at 1658 mm. At 2829 millimetres the GLB has 100 mm more wheelbase than the new B-Class. The headroom in the first seat row is 1035 millimetres - a best in this segment. At 967 mm the effective legroom in the rear of the five-seater according to Mercedes-Benz is comfortable. The load compartment capacity of 560 to 1755 litres (figures for the five-seater). On request the second seat row can be longitudinally adjusted and as standard the inclination of the backrests is adjustable in several stages. This enables the load compartment to be enlarged by up to 179 litres. The new GLB is manufactured at the Aguascalientes (Mexico) plant and, for the Chinese market, in Beijing. The Mercedes-Benz GLB comes with a range of safety equipment including retractable head restraints, seat belts with belt tensioners, a side window airbag which also protects the passengers in the third seat row plus ISOFIX and TOP-Tether anchorages for suitable child seats. These can be used to attach up to four child seats in the rear. Comfort details in the third row include two drinks holders between the seats as well as two stowage compartments with a rubberised insert on the left and right in the load compartment trim, each with a USB port. The seats can be lowered so that they are flush with the load compartment floor in order to extend the load compartment.

    The 2020 Volkswagen Passat facelift was recently spotted undergoing testing in India, sans camouflage. First showcased at the Detroit Auto Show early this year in January, the new 2020 Passat has been caught testing in India for the first time. Expected to be launched sometime in early 2020, the updated Volkswagen Passat comes with a redesigned face, with a new grille featuring thick chrome slats, flanked by a pair of new sharper-looking wraparound headlamps with LED lights and LED daytime running lamps. The 2020 Passat also comes with a new front bumper with a wide central airdam and large air intakes on either end. The 2020 VW Passat's other exterior updates include a set of 17-inch aluminium-alloy wheels, along with LED taillights, and a more prominent Passat badging that runs the width of the trunk lid.

    The Mahindra eXUV300 is the all-electric version of the carmaker’s popular subcompact SUV, the XUV300. The Mahindra eXUV300 concept made its global debut at the Auto Expo 2020, and it is set to become the company’s first electric SUV from the home-grown automaker, after the eKUV100. The XUV300 electric comes with an electric motor, powered by a Lithium-Ion battery, driving the front wheels of the SUV. The eXUV300 is based in the company’s new electric powertrain platform that will also be used by SsangYong in the European Markets.

  • BMW 8 Series

    The Bavarian premium carmaker BMW has added yet another flagship sedan to its global line up with the global unveil of the all new BMW 8 Series coupe. The BMW 8-Series Coupe will make its official launch this year in November and will be manufactured at the BMW Dingolfing plant, which is also the home for the new 7-series. To put things into perspective, the new 8 series coupe holds the status of the high-ranking status within BMW’s product range, such as the BMW Z8 and also the BMW i8 electric sedan. Moreover, the new 8 series coupe is also an important product for BMW's strategy in developing new products for the future. The new BMW 8-Series coupe was developed in parallel to the BMW M8 GTE, which had already proven its potential in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Visually, the 8 Series coupe’s low-slung design, an elongated silhouette with a slim window graphic and a floating roofline shaped the rear with distinctive “double-bubble" contouring. The long wheelbase and wide track widths of the 8 series also replicates into more space on the inside for the rear passengers as well. The exterior dimensions measures up to 4,843 mm in length, 1,902 mm in width, 1,341 mm in height and 2,822 mm of wheelbase.

    The 2020 Skoda Superb facelift is expected to launch in the second quarter of the next calendar year and the Czech carmaker is also evaluating the prospects of bringing in the plug-in hybrid variant for the Indian market. In terms of design, the 2020 Skoda Superb remains largely similar to the current model, save for the tweaked bumpers. The new bumpers have marginally added to its length, by 8 mm to 4,869 mm. However, its other dimensions remain unchanged. That said, the new Superb will be offered with some updated fitments. It gets sleek all-LED headlights along with daytime running lights and new position lights which now are stacked closer to the grille.

    The new Q3 comes with Audi's signature single-frame octagon grille with chrome elements and chrome surrounds. Globally the new-gen Audi Q3 will go on sale later this year as a 2019 model, while India is expected to get the car sometime in the second half.

    The Audi e-Tron is the first electric vehicle to be introduced by the Ingolstadt-based carmaker, and the SUV made its global debut at the Geneva International Motor Show 2018. The Audi e-Tron is also on sale in several global markets, and the German automaker will be launching the electric SUV in India later this year in the second half of 2019. Ahead of its launch, Audi India has also planned to showcase the e-Tron SUV in India on June 27, 2019, making it the first electric car from a luxury carmaker reach the Indian shores.

  • MG Hector Plus

    The Tata HBX is the pre-production model of the company’s upcoming sub-4 metre micro SUV. The concept car made is public debut at the Auto Expo 2020 and is based on the H2X concept that was showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. While Tata Motors hasn’t announced the name of the production car, however, the carmaker has confirmed that the HBX is 90 per cent close to the actual production car, which will arrive in the latter half of the Financial Year 2020-21.

  • New Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class

    The new GLA is the eighth model to join the line-up of the current compact car generation from Mercedes-Benz. It represents the entry level into the brand's successful family of SUV models. And there are quite a few changes that this new-gen model gets. The GLA features powerful overall proportions with short overhangs front and rear. The front section flows over the A-pillar into the compact greenhouse. The use of dynamic lines has reduced and the GLA now comes with coupe-like lines on the side windows. The radiator grille too features distinctive openings along with a single louvre and a central star. The side and rear views are characterised by the muscular shoulders of the vehicle. The doors reach over the sills, thereby on the one hand improving ease of access, while at the same time keeping the door frames free of dirt and improving impact protection in the event of a side collision. All-round protective cladding adds structure to the overall proportions and emphasises the vehicle's off-road character, as does the simulated underride guard at the front and rear.

In essence, the Tata Gravitas is the 7-seater version of the Harrier.

The model, internally codenamed QYI, has been a promising one, given the stellar success of the Seltos for the brand. The sub 4-metre concept showcases a bold and larger tiger-nose grille, sharply styled headlamps with LED DRLs and projector lens, and the large diamond-cut alloy wheels.

    Audi has revealed the facelift of the Q7 and it sees a new design which is more in line with the Q family. The update to the Q7 is both visual and technological, to make the SUV a more feature rich offering. Big change comes to the front where the Q7 now gets a large octagon-shaped single frame grille with six upright slats providing the structure. This helps in adding a bit of aggression to the look of the SUV. The two-part side air inlets have a much more expressive line, just like the sill area that underscores the large SUV's ground clearance. Customers will have the option of going for HD Matrix LED technology with Audi laser light.

    The Porsche Taycan is the company’s first electric car  has a clean, simple design and takes styling cues from the 918 and the 911 as well. The front end wears a minimal look, with the quad-LED headlamps, sculpted bonnet and muscular front bumper. The rear too looks very elegant with the very slim wraparound LED tail-lamp and muscular haunches. The only thing missing are the exhaust pipes! But then, it is fully electric! With a Cd value from 0.22, the aerodynamically optimised basic shape makes a significant contribution to low energy consumption resulting in a long range.

  • New Honda Jazz

    The 4th Generation Honda Jazz will make its debut at Tokyo of course, but what we will be watching out for are cues to the next generation of its sibling - the Honda City. That car may not get similar design cues, but will mimic the new Jazz in cabin space, width and wheelbase - and we expect to see all three go up. That is a strong point to consider given that the current City could do with more, better rear passenger room with a wider seat, and better legroom too.     The 2021 Kia Sorento is a huge departure over its predecessor and that not only applies to its looks, but also to what lies under the hood. The SUV has been completely overhauled and gets a new mild-hybrid powertrain called Smartstream. It is equipped with a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine which in turn is paired with a 44.2 kW electric motor that gets its juices from a 1.49 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack.

    The Next-Generation Ford EcoSport subcompact SUV have leaked in Brazil. These are the first images of the upcoming third-gen EcoSport and the SUV has gone through some major cosmetic updates and it is also expected to get new, more modern features and equipment, along with updated powertrain options. The new-gen Ford EcoSport is expected to make its global debut in late 2020 or early 2021.

    Datsun showcased the Go Cross subcompact SUV in India at the 2016 Auto Expo. The GO-Cross will initiate Datsun to the growing crossover segment and will also be its flagship model. In fact, from what we know, it'll be under 4 metres and we don't think that the car will see a seven seat configuration like on the GO+ MPV. While the 1.2-litre petrol unit is the same as the one that does duty on the GO hatchback and GO+ MPV, the 1.5-litre dCi diesel will be borrowed from the Nissan Micra.
