Tata Tigor

The newly launched Tata Tigor subcompact sedan is the boot-equipped version of the very successful Tata Tiago hatchback. Showcased in the production form at the 2016 Auto Expo, the Tigor started life as the Kite 5 and is positioned below the Zest in the automaker's model range. The Tigor is also the third product from Tata Motors in the subcompact sedan segment after the Indigo eCS and Zest. It is also currently the most affordable offering in the segment.

Tata Tigor, the newest subcompact sedan from the home-grown manufacturer now finally gets an AMT variant. Available in two variants - XTA and XZA, the new Tigor AMT is priced at Rs 5.75 lakh and Rs 6.22 lakh respectively and like the Tiago, the automated manual transmission (AMT) is only available in the petrol model. The new Tata Tigor AMT will be available across all Tata Motors showrooms in India from today. The new Tigor AMT will compete in India with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Dzire AMT and Hyundai Xcent AT as well but the latter comes with a torque converter.

Tata Tiago Exteriors

Compared to the Tiago, the Tata Tigor shares its underpinnings and design with the hatchback. The front resembles the hatchback, but has been tweaked with a new grille and blacked out headlamps that comes with projector lens. The rear now comes with boot complete with LED tail lamps. The black cladding inside the bumper allows for a more striking look while reducing the visual bulk on the subcompact sedan. Tata Motors calls the Tigor a 'Styleback', courtesy of its notchback-inspired styling. 

Tata Tigor Interiors 

The cabin on the Tata Tigor resembles that on the Tiago, but gets updates with a new touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink. The top variants also come with automatic climate control and exterior colour finished AC vent surrounds. The subcompact sedan has the segment best boot capacity at a gauging 420 litres. which is about 13 litres more than the Hyundai Xcent at 407 litres. 

Tata Tigor Engine, Specification & Transmission

Power on the Tata Tigor comes from the1.2 litre, three cylinder, Revotron petrol engine tuned to produce 84 bhp and 114 Nm of peak torque. Diesel variants, on the other hand use a 1.05 litre three cylinder engine tuned for 69 bhp and peak torque of of 140 Nm. Both engines come paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while an automatic is yet to be offered.

The subcompact sedan segment is loaded with offerings and the Tata Tigor will have to fight it its way to make it to the top. The Tata contender will be locking horns against the Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire, Volkswagen Ameo and its older sibling the Tata Zest.
