Problamatic sedimenter positioning

I bought the car around two weeks back and it has done only 350km. Now within two weeks, I am facing problems with a part called sedimenter which is placed just below the front passenger seat, its placed so low that a sensor attached to it is just 6 to 7 inches above the ground and it is positioned just behind the front passenger wheel. It is even lower than the chassis. A stone or a pebble if jumps because of coming under the wheel will surely hit the sedimenter which exactly happened with me. I was driving the vehicle on a Sunday night and it suddenly stopped, I tried to crank the engine but it didn't work. The next day I took the vehicle to its authorised workshop. After checking the vehicle, the service advisor told me that the sedimentor got hit by something and has become faulty we will have to change it and it doesn't come under warranty and you will have to pay for it. I was made to pay Rs. 3670. I don't know what hit the vehicle, there is not even a single scratch on it. Yes if a stone jumps from the tyre its not my fault, the sedimenter is positioned at the wrong place, its so low that the sensor attached to it is even lower than the chassis and I think I should get the part replaced under warranty. Now for the last one week I have been registering complaints after complaints but as you all know nothing is happening. I don't know why they call it an SUV, because a stone jumps from its tyre and it stops working!

Underestimated SUV

Very good ride quality and absorb every pot holes comfortably.Does not require frequent gear change you can drive at 40kmph speed even in top gear result in better fuel efficiency of 12.5kmpl in local driving 15-16kmpl on highway. A.C. and Harmon kardon music system is awesome. Very comfortable driving in rains and night and on single road due to good visibility.

Tata Safari Storme Preview

Tata’s facelift version of Safari with an additional suffix ‘Storme’ was first launched in 2012. Feature list includes most of the equipment seen on rivalling SUVs, although it misses out on some equipment. Power comes from a 2.2 litre, DOHC VTT, VARICOR diesel powertrain paired to a manual gearbox. The more powerful VARICOR 400 diesel unit, essentially the same engine is equipped in the range topping VX variant, linked to a new six-speed manual transmission. 

Tata’s facelift version of Safari with an additional suffix ‘Storme’ was first launched in 2012. To Tata’s disappointment, the overhauled version failed to appeal to the masses unlike the regular avatar which ruled for long. To inveigle larger audiences, Tata rolled out special editions followed by facelift versions and a new more powerful variant. Albeit, the quick overhauls could not do any good to the SUV falling short in the thick of rivals.  Exteriors are hulking, but they do not appeal for some reason. Interiors are spacious and surprisingly better styled than outside. Feature list includes most of the equipment seen on rivalling SUVs, although it misses out on some fitments. Power comes from a 2.2 litre, DOHC VTT, VARICOR diesel powertrain paired to a manual gearbox.

  

Tata Safari Storme Exterior

In profile, it looks huge or more of bulky, the front chrome finished dual-slat grille meets with the large pulled back head light units. A thick chrome band is placed just above the front grille showcasing STORME embossing in black. The bonnet is flat and hence makes the SUV appear old-fashioned. Fog lamps assembly on lower side of bumper features fog lights and small air-intakes. Frankly, the front wind-screen and the mundane window frame on flanks are a huge put off. Side profile isn’t impressive and appears too crowded featuring multiple creases. Wheel arches are flared and a side stepper is placed for convenience of passengers. Moreover, the tyres are not placed justly; there is a conspicuous gap between arches and wheels. Despite various makeovers, Tata could not do justice to the rear styling, it looks dated featuring a rounded spoiler at top, a flat boot lid, a pair of unimpressive tail lights, reflectors and dual chrome finished tail pipes.

Tata Safari Storme Interior

Thankfully for Strome, interior is styled better than the exterior. Embracing a dark tone with splashes of silver all around, cabin looks way more up-market. One of the highlights of the cabin is the responsive four-spoke steering wheel borrowed from Zest. Besides, the dashboard is styled modishly, although the quality of material used inside is not up to the mark. Silver finished centre console features ac vents, temperature dials and a music system. Floor console has practical cubby holes for storage purpose. Instrument cluster behind the steering is large and clearly visible. There is abundance of space for front and rear passengers with comfortable leg room. Two jump seats are placed at the back for seating two additional passengers. The large glass area provides ample visibility especially to the driver.

Tata Safari Storme Engine Specifications & Transmission

Under the skin, Safari Storme gets a 2.2 litre, 16-valve DOHC VTT VARICOR diesel engine good for 148bhp at 4000rpm along with 320Nm between 1,700 to 2,700rpm. Transmission duties are undertaken by a five-speed manual gearbox. A four-wheel drive electronic shift on fly mechanism along with limited slip differential is available on the top-spec variant. A more powerful version of the 2.2 litre diesel unit dubbed VARICOR 400 is available on the top-spec variant, producing 154bhp and 400Nm of torque. Mated to a new six-speed manual gearbox, the more powerful engine is available in 2x2 and 4x4 options.

Tata Safari Storme Features

To start with, Storme’s front profile features projector head lamps with PES ring, roof rails are fitted on top, flanks feature body coloured outside rear view mirrors along with side footsteps and side cladding. Rear gets a chrome tail gate with TATA embossing, rear wash and wiper and a footstep for convenient entry. Seats are covered with black fabric across model series. Instrument cluster features 2 digital trip meters and analog tachometer with low fuel indicator warning.

Tata Safari Storme Performance & Mileage

The two wheel drive version delivers a slightly improved fuel economy at 14km/l. Outputting 9bhp more power, the diesel engine seems more agile while on the go. Despite weighing heavy, Strome propels to 100 kmph from rest within 15 seconds (approximate value).

Tata Safari Storme Accessories & Infotainment

Harman sourced CONNECTNEXT music system with mounted controls on steering wheel standard save for the base variant. The audio system comes with Bluetooth connectivity, USB port, AUX-In connectivity and reverse sensor graphic but there is no touch-screen and rear-view camera.

Tata Safari Storme Braking & Handling

Stopping power is provided by ventilated disc brakes at front and discs brake at rear axles. Safari Strome also gets anti-lock-braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution on all variants except for the base trim. Handling the giant SUV within city amid heavy traffic still seems little inconvenient; although the steering is more responsive now and ride quality remains to be a highlight.

Tata Safari Storme Safety & Security

Dual front airbags and ultrasonic reverse guide system with graphical display in music system LCD screen are standard on high end trims. Clear lens fog lamps and rear fog lamps with reflex reflector are left out in the entry level variant. Standard safety equipment across line-up includes side impact bars, crumple zones, engine immobilizer, motorised head lamps adjustment, central locking and child safety lock, anti-glare-rear-view mirror. Door open warning, key-out warning for headlamps On and seat belt unfastened warning.

Tata Safari Storme Comfort & Convenience

Comfort provisions on the SUV include power steering, adjustable steering column, HVAC, roof mounted rear AC with cooling coil, power adjusting outside rear view mirrors with turn indicators, power windows in front/rear with express down feature, heated and power foldable ORVMs, remote central locking with flip key, height adjuster for driver’s seat, 3-position lumbar support from front seats, arm rest for driver and co-passenger, second row seats with 60:40 split and tumble fold.

Tata Safari Storme Wheels & Tyres

16 inch alloy wheels are wrapped with tubeless tyres measuring 235/70 R16, although they appear a tad small as compared to the large metal mass resting above it.
