The primordial 4X4 SUV from Tata Motors debuted in 1998 and continued to woo customers for years. In 2012, the company rolled out an improved version of the SUV christened Safari Storme, but continued to offer the original Safari sold under the Safari DiCOR nameplate. Powered by the 2.2 litre VTT DiCOR, diesel unit, it comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
Revered for its rugged looks and muscular stance, the original Safari still lives on. Cosmetically, the DiCOR and Storme are largely similar with no radical differences. Inside, it offers seven seat layout, with comfortable space for occupants seated in front and rear. The primordial version of Safari continues to draw power from the 2.2 litre, DiCOR unit producing 138bhp linked to a five-speed manual gearbox.

Compared to Storme, it has a different face; the chrome laden three slat grille fills the gap between square-shaped head lamps. Lower bumper is slightly protrude and houses fog lamps, air-intakes and silver finished skid plate. Side profile is accentuated by elements like flared wheel arches, side cladding and chrome finished ORVMs. Rear section gets mounted spare wheel, chunky tail lamps and large bumper.

Beige interior colour scheme goes well with the colour-coordinated fabric seat covers with Safari embossing on it and on the head restraints. Cabin accommodates seven occupants inside without compromising on the luggage storage space.

The DOHC VTT DiCOR engine displacing 2179cc produces 138bhp at 4000rpm and 320Nm between 1700 to 2700rpm. Transmission duties are taken care of by a five-speed manual unit.
