The Audi A6 has reached the middle of its current generation lifecycle and so it was time for a facelift and update. After all, taking on the classy Mercedes-Benz E-class and the sporty BMW 5-series is no mean feat.

There is the one big USP that Audi is touting on the new A6. And that's been the focus of all communication on it-Matrix LED headlights. Currently only the A8 and new TT get these in India. This is a row of 19 light emitting diodes per headlight paired with 4 reflectors, which produce the high-beam light without blinding on coming traffic. The car also has dynamic LED turn indicators and the new Day Time running light pattern.

Most of the other exterior changes on the grille and front bumper are subtle to give it a elegant look. The new 18 inch V spoke alloys are eye catchy and give it a sporty appeal. Overall We have to say the car does indeed look reloaded and refreshed.

The new A6 comes is offered in one trim and one variant and so everything mentioned is standard. The 2.0 litre TDI has been tweaked for a bit more power at 190 horsepower and the car feels quite agile and responsive. The CVT transmission has made way for the 7 speed Stronic and comes with paddle shifters to add some fun to driving experience.

The car's steering has been tuned for city driving, yet overall the car handles very well on the highway too. The suspension is also reworked and now fits Indian conditions a bit better says Audi. The new 18 inch wheels add more stability especially while cornering at high speeds.

The interior of the A6 feels a bit more premium than before with the new wood finish on the dash inlays. The rear passengers also get attention with features like climate control, a remote for the infotainment system. What we found very handy was the electronically adjustable co-driver seat for additional leg room for the rear left side passenger. Audi's multimedia infotainment system or MMI has also been updated to offer a better driver interface and has updated navigation and voice guidance systems.

The new A6 comes at an ex-showroom Delhi price of almost 49.50 lakh rupees. The new package does offer a bit more appeal and will hold its own against the 5 Series and E-Class. Things will get interesting when Jaguar finally decides to debut the 2nd generation XF in India.
