Jeep Compass Unveiled
The Jeep Compass was unveiled at the company's Ranjangaon plant near Pune,in Maharashtra, where it will be manufactured for India and other export markets.
India will be the sole manufacturing location for the right-hand-drive (RHD) Jeep Compass SUV. The SUV made here will also be exported to Jeep's other RHD markets like - Australia, UK and Japan.
The Jeep Compass is the carmaker's smallest model in India and also the most affordable one as well. It will be share some of its design and style cues with the Grand Cherokee.
Like other Jeep brand models, the Jeep Compass is also expected to come in two variants - Summit and Limited.
This model showcased today is the pre-production version of the Jeep Compass and the production model will some minor changes in styling.
The production version of the Jeep Compass will come with projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights. Up front, the SUV gets Jeep's signature grille design and the SUV also features a set of stylish alloy wheels.
From the sides the new Jeep Compass reveals its design resemblance with its older sibling Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was one the first Jeep products to be launched in India last year. It is also above the 4 metre mark measuring 4398 mm in length,1819 mm in width, and 1667 mm in height. The Compass offers a wheelbase of 2636 mm and a ground clearance of 178 mm.
The Jeep Compass comes with two engine options - a 1.4 litre Multi-Air petrol engine and a 2.0 litre diesel engine. While the petrol motor makes over 100 bhp and develops 260 Nm of peak torque, the oil burner churns our over 170 bhp and develops 350 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed automatic unit.
