The much awaited MG Hector SUV has finally made its official debut in India as the first offering from the Chinese-owned British brand. The new Hector is positioned as a tech and feature laden offering will be one of the first cars in India to get the connected car features. The SUV has been teased multiple times now, while the exterior was revealed recently in images. In fact, production of the Hector also commenced earlier this month at the automaker's new facility in Halol, Gujarat and will see about 75 per cent of local content going in. MG has revealed the powertrain options on the new SUV and also the interior that is roomy and feature laden...

MG Hector: Exterior Design

With respect to the design, the MG Hector looks premium and well-equipped, offering features like low-set LED projector headlamps, a larger black mesh grille, high mounted LED daytime running lamps and a wide central airdam. The grille and the headlamps assembly are bordered by brushed silver inserts, which in the case of the top-end model will be chrome.

The MG Hector will come equipped with the i-Smart next-generation system. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) based completely integrated solution combines software, hardware, connectivity, services and application and comes with advanced features like - smart application, built-in Apps, Real-Time Navigation, Remote Location, Geo-Fencing, Emergency Response and much more. It also comes with pre-loaded apps including TomTom IQ Maps, Gaana Premium, and AccuWeather app, in addition to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Like a smartphone, the system also over-the-air (OTA) downloads function to keep the software up-to-date.

Power on the new MG Hector comes from a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel engine. The latter being the Fiat-sourced oil burner that was introduced in the Jeep Compass. The petrol version comes with a first-in-segment 48 volt hybrid architecture that promises reduced fuel consumption and emissions. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual, while the petrol gets a dual-clutch automatic as an option. The Hector will against a number of offerings in the segment including the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, as well as the upcoming Kia SP2i. The SUV is slated for launch in June this year.

MG Hector Unveil: Deliveries
While production has already begun, MG Motor India will begin shipments of the Hector SUV within the next few weeks to its network of 120 outlets across 50 cities.

The automaker aims to expand its network to 250 outlets by the end of September this year. Pre-orders of Hector will begin next month; the dates will be announced within the next couple of weeks.

MG's parent company SAIC  has set up new manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat. This was previously the General Motors plant but was later bought out by the Chinese automaker and will be churning out MG cars in the future.

The new plant underwent a massive upgrade exercise and now includes an assembly line, new press shop, new body shop, new parts distribution centre, testing track and a training facility, all of which was set-up within 18 months.

The first product to be rolled out from the facility is the Hector Compact SUV.
