The Mahindra KUV100 is in demand with the sub-compact SUV crossing 21,000 bookings in just a month since its launch. In fact, Mahindra revealed that there is a waiting period of up to 3 months for the car and that the company is working to increase its production in order to meet demand.
Launched in January 2016, the KUV 100 has also received around 1.75 lakh enquiries and more than 2.7 million visits on its website.
The Mahindra KUV100, which is in the ₹ 4.45 - 6.84 lakh price range (ex-showroom, Delhi), is India's largest utility vehicle maker's third sub-4 metre SUV after the Quanto and TUV300. Targeted at youth and first-time buyers, the sub-compact SUV is offered in both petrol and diesel variants. While the diesel KUV100 was always expected to do well, Mahindra revealed that almost half the bookings have been received for the petrol version.

The 2 newly-developed petrol and diesel engines from the carmaker's all-new engine series 'mFalcon' are used in the car. The petrol version gets a 1.2-litre all-aluminium mFalcon G80 3-cylinder petrol motor that produces 82bhp of power and 114Nm of torque. On the other hand, the diesel version is equipped with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged common-rail diesel engine, named the mFalcon D75, that develops 77bhp along with 190Nm of torque. Both engines come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

In order to lend Mahindra KUV100 its SUV-esque appeal, it gets a unique pair of head-lamps with follow-me-home lamps, LED DRLs, black plastic-cladded front bumper that houses the vertical LED fog lamps, air dam, and a large sliver skid plate.

Buoyed by the robust response to the KUV100, Mahindra is looking to enhance its market share in the utility vehicles segment beyond 40 per cent. The company is banking on the KUV100 and TUV300 to gain additional volumes.

"This is a segment (mini SUV) which we have entered newly. This will not only help us gain additional volumes but will also help increase our market share in the utility vehicles segment, which is nearly 40 per cent at present," Shah said.
The company expects the TUV300 to contribute to the effort as "we are doing around 3,500 to 4,000 units a month", he added.
In the April-January period this fiscal, Mahindra had sold a total of 1,74,276 units of utility vehicles out of a total industry sales of 4,68,323 units in the segment.
Commenting on the demand for the KUV100, Shah said that the company will increase production. "We are looking to increase production, as we have stated at the time of launch. Today, we have a capacity to produce 9,000 units of the XUV500 and KUV100 combined. Within a couple of months, we will increase it by an additional 3,000 units," he said.
The Mahindra KUV100 is offered in a total of four variants, namely, K2, K4, K6, and K8, along with the '+' option that offers additional safety equipment and comfort-enhancing features.
