After showcasing its stellar line-up at Auto Expo 2016, British bikemaker Triumph will display its new range of Bonneville motorcycles at India Bike Week (IBW) 2016. Triumph has already launched the Bonneville T120 and Street Twin in India at the expo with the Thruxton R set to follow in the near future.
The iconic Bonneville range has been built on a completely new platform which features updated styling, design, new engines and improved technologies. The Triumph Street Twin will come equipped with a 900cc water-cooled engine whereas the Bonneville T120 will feature a more powerful 1200cc engine which is shared by the Thruxton R. Both the Triumph Bonneville T120 and Street Twin will feature electronic ride-by-wire systems as well as traction control. Additionally, all Triumph bikes sold in India now come equipped with ABS as standard.
At IBW 2016, Triumph will also display its range of superbikes and adventure bikes. The bikemaker arrived in India 2 years ago and has sold 2,500 units in the country so far. Its network of dealers in India includes 12 world-class stores that pan across the nation.
Vimal Sumbly, MD of Triumph Motorcycles India, commented on the fact that the Indian superbiking scenario has changed radically since it first started in 2007-2008 when only 400 units were sold. In contrast, the superbike industry managed to sell over 10,000 units last year.
Speaking with regards to the increasing popularity of superbikes in India, Sumbly said, "We expect it to go to 20,000 by 2020 and want to be a dominant player. We want to bring technology to the people. It's easy to build a big bike, but our strategy is to provide the most safest bike in India. We want to do 2,000 units a year by 2020." Additionally, Triumph is looking to cross the 65,000 units mark in terms of global annual sales by 2020.
The Triumph Bonneville T120 is priced from Rs 8.70 lakh on-wards whereas the Triumph Street Twin was launched at a starting price of Rs 6.90 lakh.
