Highlights

  • Hyundai Grand i10 facelift comes with cosmetic updates & new features
  • Hyundai has added a new Sportz (O) AT variant to the petrol trim
  • Many variants see a drop in price compared to previous model

Hyundai has launched the facelifted Grand i10 in India and has priced it at ₹ 4.58 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The price of the base variant of the diesel starts at ₹ 5.68 lakh. Now both these prices  undercut the ones of the previously sold car and that's pretty big as we expected it to be a little heavy on the pocket. While we expected the car to be similar to the one showcased at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, Hyundai India has made it a bit different in terms of styling. We have already driven the car so we know what it's all about.

The front bumper has been revised and so have been the position of the DRLs. The one showcased at the Paris Motor Show saw the DRLs being integrated into the front grille, however, the one launched in India sees the LED DRLs positioned near the fog lamps and yes they look pretty. They're however, only available in the Sportz (option) and Asta variants.

Hyundai Grand i10 facelift sees a new front bumper and the introduction of DRLs

The biggest change in the 2017 Grand i10, however, is the feature list and the new diesel engine. Let's talk about the new diesel engine first. The previous car came with a 1.1 litre diesel engine good enough for 70 bhp and developing a torque of 160 Nm. The new diesel engine is a 1.2 litre unit which now puts out 3 bhp more and so the tally now stands at 73.97 bhp. The torque figures too have gone up by 30Nm and the figure now stands at 190Nm, and that's to bring up the fuel efficiency of the car. The fuel efficiency figure stands at 24.95 kmpl. The 5-speed manual transmission remains and yes, for those looking for an automatic in the diesel Grand i10, you'll have to wait for some more time.

There are no changes to the 1.2 litre petrol engine from the previous Grand i10 and it still is punches out 82 bhp and develops 113.7 Nm of torque. The petrol engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, while as in the previous car, there'll be a 4-speed automatic up for grabs on the Magna variant as an option.

Engines 1.2 Litre Petrol 1.2 Litre Diesel
Displacement 1197 cc 1186 cc
Max Power 81.86 bhp @ 6,000 rpm 73.97 bhp @ 4000 rpm
Max Torque 113.7 Nm @ 4,000 rpm 190.2 Nm @ 1750-2250rpm
Transmission 5-Speed Manual / 4-Speed AT 5-Speed Manual
Fuel Efficiency 19.77kmpl / 17.49kmpl 24.95kmpl

On the safety front, the Grand i10 facelift will come with driver side airbags as part of standard equipment, while the Sportz and Asta variant come equipped with dual front airbags. Hyundai has followed the same equipment list as with the previous car and so features like Bluetooth, USB and even a music system go missing in both the Era and Magna.

The Sportz and the Asta variants come filled to the brim with features. The Asta variant now features a 7-inch infotainment system which replaces the 5-inch unit from the previous car and there's also climate control now in this variant. What the Grand i10 also gets is Apple Carplay and Android Auto, something that the company first brought out in the new generation Elantra, followed by the Tucson.

With the new prices the Grand i10 facelift will go up against the likes of the Nissan Micra Active, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Tata Tiago, Maruti Suzuki Ignis and even the Ford Figo. With the new face, the Grand i10 is looks better than before and with the new features is all set to take on the old as well as new rivals.
