Honda Cars India today issued a recall for 22,834 vehicles in the country to fix the faulty front passenger airbag inflators. The affected models were all manufactured were fitted with airbag system from Takata Corporation and this is a part of Honda's precautionary global recall campaign concerning Takata front airbag inflators. In fact, the company has told you that this is the eighth wave of recall for India and the affected models include - the previous generation Honda City, Jazz and Accord, all of which were manufactured in 2013. Honda Car India has said that it will voluntarily replace Takata passenger front airbag inflators, at no cost to the customers.
22,084 units from the total recalled vehicle are Honda City sedans
As mentioned earlier, the faulty Takata airbag inflators pose the threat of being deployed with excessive internal pressure when activated. The airbag inflator casing might rupture which may result in injury or safety risk to the vehicle occupants. In fact, with this announcement, Honda Cars India also reiterates the importance of replacing the defective Takata front airbag inflators urgently. Honda India customers can check whether their cars are covered under this campaign by submitting their unique 17 character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the special microsite which has been created on the company's website.

The latest recall campaign has been commenced starting today, January 19, 2018, and will be conducted over a period of next few months. Among the three aforementioned models, over 90 per cent of cars is the Honda City compact sedan, accounting for a total of 22,084 units. The remaining models include 510 units of the Honda Accord full-size sedan and 240 units of the company's premium hatchback Jazz.
Last year in January, Honda issued a recall for 41,580 vehicles in India, which included the Jazz, City, Civic and Accord, all of which were manufactured in 2012. A year before that, in July 2016 the company issued a recall for over 1.9 lakh vehicles. This recall also included the previous generation of Accord, CR-V, Civic, City and Jazz, which were manufactured between 2003 and 2011. During the same year, in the month of February, the company issued a recall for 57,676 units of its 3 models, the City, Jazz, and Civic that were manufactured between January 2012 and June 2013, again to replace the faulty Takata airbag inflators.
