Scooters continue to remain top sellers for Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) bringing in the chunk of volumes. While it is the Activa leading the sales charts always, the Dio isn't too bad either on the sales front. In fact, the Honda Dio 110 cc scooter has crossed the 30 lakh sales milestone, adding a new feather to its hat. Honda says the first 15 lakh sales took 14 years to achieve, but the latest 15 lakh sales were registered in just three years. That's five times faster than the earlier pace, which has helped the Dio grow into India's fourth largest selling scooter. The milestone also comes at a time when the domestic auto industry is undergoing a lull phase over the past few months.
Speaking about the new milestone, HMSI - Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Yadvinder Singh Guleria said, "With its 17 years of legacy, Dio remains fresh as ever while celebrating the spirit of youthfulness. Convenient features & stylish looks make it a perfect partner for youngsters of today - not just in India but in international markets as well. We thank all our customers who choose to ride on the uber-trendy Dio while living life their own way."
While the Honda Dio is quite the popular choice amidst young buyers in the country, the manufacturer says it has found global acceptance as well. Honda says the Dio registered a 44 per cent export market share in the scooter segment with the offering being shipped to 11 South Asian and Latin American countries including Nepal, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Columbia and others. The Dio is also Honda 2Wheeler India's highest export model.
The Honda Dio received its last update in 2018 and and now comes equipped with a LED headlamp with LED position lamp, digital instrument console, and nine colour options. The Dio is priced from ₹ 52,938 (ex-showroom, Delhi) and comes with dual-tone body graphics, gold rims, 4-in-1 lock opening switch, and an optional mobile charging socket. Power on the scooter comes from the tried and tested 109 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine tuned for 8 bhp and 8.91 Nm of peak torque. The motor is paired with a CVT automatic. The Honda Dio competes against a number of offerings including the TVS Wego, Hero Maestro Edge and the likes in the segment.
