The second generation of the Dacia (Renault) Duster has finally made its public debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show and we couldn't have thought of a better platform than this one. The new-gen Duster gets a thorough update and the Dacia to Renault rebadging will certainly see the latter embracing the same design for its compact SUV. It's a fresh new design inside-out and which is why we are eagerly awaiting its launch in India.
(The 2018 Renault Duster retains the same platform and engine options)
"The all-new Duster's SUV appeal has been heightened by its robust exterior design which has been entirely redesigned, while its new interior design emphasizes comfort and perceived quality," Francois Mariotte, General Manager, Dacia Sales and Marketing, commented during the brand's press conference at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
While the new-gen Duster retains its proportions and overall dimensions, the slightly wider track, a more prominent radiator grille, and bigger wheel arches give the Compact SUV some much needed muscle, something that its predecessor lacked. The tail lamps are new too but we can't help but notice that their inspiration was the Jeep Renegade. The rear end also benefits from a redesigned bumper with new diffuser, while new aluminum roof bars and 17-inch wheels give the Duster an imposing look.
The cabin of the new-gen Duster has been refreshed and now features a new instrument cluster, a new center console, and a new steering wheel. From the pictures that we can see, we think that the infotainment system too has been updated and that's good news. While Renault has not yet let on about the engines on offer, we don't expect any changes in that department. The 1.5-litre diesel and 1.5-litre petrol will continue to power the Duster with no changes in power figures atleast for the Indian market.
Now given the success of the Renault Duster in India and the strong SUV trend, it's likely that the company might bring the car to India to showcase at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo and we won't be surprised if Renault launches the car in the next year itself. But we wait to know more from the company on that front.
