Abarth Punto, the second car from the Fiat Chrysler-owned performance brand in India, was launched today at ₹ 9.95 lakh. However, that wasn't the only Abarth to be launched today; Fiat also launched the performance-oriented version of the Avventura crossover at the same price as the Abarth Punto.

Both, the Abarth Punto and the Abarth Avventura, will house a 1.4-litre T-Jet turbocharged petrol unit under the hood that will be mated to a 5-speed manual. The Abarth Punto promises segment-leading performance numbers: 145bhp of power along with a maximum torque of 212Nm. The Abarth Avventura's numbers, on the other hand, puts out 140bhp and 210Nm of peak torque.

Just so you know, the regular Fiat Punto Evo is offered with 3 engine options: the 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre naturally-aspirated petrol units, and a 1.3-litre multijet diesel unit (in 2 states of tune). The regular Fiat Avventura is offered with a 1.4-litre petrol and a 1.3-litre multijet diesel.

Moving on to the cabin, it sports the signature Abarth badge on the steering wheel and new upholstery among other changes. In terms of safety, the Fiat Abarth Punto gets 7 airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Hill-start assist control, etc. The Abarth Punto's closes rival is the Volkswagen GT TSI but clearly the one from VW is nowhere close to the power figures that the Punto boasts of.

Speaking on the launch, Kevin Flynn, President and Managing Director, FCA India Automobiles Pvt. Ltd. said, "We are delighted to roll-out the Abarth Punto which is a performance oriented hatchback. This indigenously designed hot hatch is crafted to rev-up the adrenalin of the racing enthusiasts by delivering exhilarating speed and stability at the same time. The Italian styling and design, stability at high speeds, lowered ground clearance and host of plush features makes the Abarth Punto the hottest and the fastest hatchback available in the country"
