The winners of the prestigious World Car Awards will be announced in April at the 2019 New York Motor Show. But before that the finalists of the Awards have been announced. We already told you about the final five competitors just a few weeks ago and now, after some more votes and of course deliberation, the top three contenders across the six categories have been announced. The 86 global jurors have cast their votes in this second round, while the final votes will be tallied just ahead of the New York Motor Show.
There were ten finalists for the big prize - the World Car Of The Year Award - but now the final three have been announced. It comes as a big surprise that two of the finalists are actually all-electric cars. Yes, the jury has spoken and the Audi e-tron and the Jaguar I-Pace are among the top three finalists, while the Volvo S60/V60 is also in the running for the top prize.
The World Urban Car Of The Year category has seen a lot of interest over the past few years, but this time around the competition has just heated up. The made-in-India Hyundai Santro has made it to the list of the top three and that's big news. Suzuki too is in the race with the Jimny while Hyundai's sister concern Kia too has managed to grab a spot in the final three with the Soul. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out and we can't wait for the results to be revealed.
The World Luxury Car Of the Year Category had a lot of strong contenders but the final three has two Audis - the A7 and the Q8, while the BMW 8 Series too is among the three finalists. Mercedes-Benz with the new CLS and even Volkswagen with the new Touareg, miss out on being the finalist this time around.
Out of the 5 finalists in the World Performance Car Of The Year Category, the three that will fight it out for the top spot are the Aston Martin Vantage, the McLaren 720S and even the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. We would have loved to see the BMW M2 Competition here too but sadly it doesn't quite make the cut.
The World Green Car Of The Year is one category, which will surely see a boost in terms of nominations in the coming years. However, for now, the three finalists are the Audi e-tron, the Hyundai Nexo and the Jaguar I-Pace. As we said earlier, two of these cars are now in the final running for the World Car Of The Year Award and it just tells you about the time we live in now.
Finally, the World Car Design Of the Year category and here too, the Jaguar I-Pace makes it to the list. But there's good news for Suzuki too as the Jimny has been picked as one of the finalists in this category. The final contender here is the lovely and very elegant Volvo XC40 and yes, we've loved the look of that car ever since we first drove it.
