Maruti Suzuki India is developing a seven seater sub-compact MPV based on its popular B segment hatchback WagonR. The concept version of the MPV was first revealed at the Indonesia International Motor Show held in 2013.

Based on the WagonR hatchback, the seven seat MPV will have huge resemblance with the former although the dimensions will be beefed up to fit into the MPV space. That said the under development MPV may gauge 101mm longer than the hatchback version. Both will share the same platform, but reportedly there will be design differences.

Measuring below 4 meters, the challenge remains to accommodate the third row with ease. As for styling, it is likely to be akin to the mass section vehicles as the MPV is expected to be priced competitively.
WagonR MPV Engine specification and Transmission
Under the hood could be a 1.2 litre K-Series petrol or the 1.3 litre DDiS diesel engine. Reports also suggest that Maruti may house a 1.0 litre petrol and 0.8 litre diesel engine serving Celerio.

In the competitive seven seat segment, the compact MPV will fight with close rivals like Datsun Go Cross.

On the price front, the MPV is likely to cost Rs 80,000 more than the regular hatchback.
