Mahindra e2o Preview

The rather petite e20 measures just 3,280mm long, 1,514mm wide and 1,560mm high. Designing is elementary, the low declining bonnet in front meets the lean swept-back head lamps flanking the hexagonal honey-comb grille. Chrome is missing in front, instead there is a black strip running between the head lamps. Fog lamps are missing on lower side of bumper, but it features very small air-intakes. Wheel arches are flared and gap between tyres and arches is a bit too much. Moreover, the tyres appear under-sized as opposed to the rest of the body. All black outside rear view mirrors are fitted on driver and co-passenger side. The back window merges with the quarter glass and meets with wrap around tail lamps. Pull back door handles are available on front doors only. The upright rear windscreen looks too plain jane and reflectors are placed way too higher than usual.

e20 Interiors

The quality of material used inside is evidently compromised, moreover the styling too seems dated although Mahindra has tried to up the ante compared to the Reva version. The dark themed dashboard gets rounded air vents sitting on the top of the centre console. A touch-screen display is placed right below the air vents and the large temperature dials appear very outdated. Instrument cluster gets a large display for flashing information. There is a glovebox on passenger’s side for storage. Other vital features on board are navigation system, a reverse parking camera and keyless-go system. Seats in front are comfortable and space on offer is decent too. Legroom at back is pretty snug as well, which means no aching legs while on the move to a distant place.

e20 Engine Specifications & Transmission

Power comes from a 3 phase induction motor and 48V maintenance-free lithium-ion battery. Total power and torque output for this EV is 19kW at 3750rpm and 53 Nm at 3400rpm. A fully automatic transmission is mated to the motor.

e20 Features

Features on offer on the outside are projector head lamps, power adjusting outside rear view mirrors, rear defogger, courtesy lights, follow-me-home head lights, LED tail lamps and scissor wipers. Cabin comes with a handful of features such as GPS navigation, digital user manual, integrated maps, Bluetooth, iPod connectivity, one-touch-foldable seats, keyless entry & start/stop, CD/DVD/USB/AUX and MICROSD, dual damping glove box, electric power steering, driver information system, intelligent energy management system, 10 on board computers, car’s personal web page and 6.2 inch touch screen infotainment system.

e20 Performance & Mileage

In one full charge (from 220V 15 A socket), the EV can run up to 120 kms under standard conditions. Time taken for one full charge is quite a bit around 5 hours and 10 minutes.

e20 Braking & Handling

Disc brakes in front and drum brakes at rear work to seize power when required. Besides, the brake energy regeneration system equipped in vehicle saves on energy when brakes are exerted or car slows down. Handling is quite mediocre, while on the go lot of body roll is experienced. Suspension set up performs its part well.

e20 Safety & Security

Nothing eminent in terms of safety, the car gets integrated features such as gear shift & charge interlocks, immobiliser, ISOFIX child seat mounts with ALR rear seat belts, hill hold, adjustable headrest on all seats and scratch and dent resistant body panels.

Mahindra e20 Wheels & Tyres

Low resistance tubeless tyres measuring 155/70 R13 are fitted all around. The tyres look under massed as compared to the body and the gap between arches and tyres is a bit too evident.

Mahindra e20 Competition

There is no competition around for this petite electric hatchback that comes for a hefty price.
