Hyundai Tucson Preview
Hyundai launched Tucson SUV in India priced at Rs 22.24 lakh (on-road price, New Delhi) in petrol and diesel variants, with a 2WD drivetrain. Missing out on the AWD version, Hyundai will soon add the AWD drivetrain to the carline in May 2017. The all-wheel drive system on the new Tucson will be the Active On-Demand 4WD with 50/50 front and rear lock mode system and it will be offered with the 2.0 litre, four cylinder CRDi unit. Additionally, it will get an all-black interior with a panoramic sunroof. Hyundai Tucson re-entered the Indian market in November 2016 after the premium SUV was phased out in 2010. The new Hyundai Tucson is positioned between Creta and Santa-Fe in Hyundai India’s SUV line-up. Currently in third generation, the 2016 Hyundai Tucson is built on the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy and features multiple design elements that accentuate the imposing exterior profile. The Hyundai Tucson India-spec model is available with a choice of two engines and two transmissions in a total of five variants.
Rivalling the likes of Honda CR-V and Skoda Yeti in the premium SUV segment, Hyundai Tucson price falls in the vicinity of Rs 18.99 lakh to Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Hyundai had pulled the plug on Tucson SUV back in 2010 due to poor response from customers, but taking into account the rising popularity of SUVs Hyundai brought it back in 2016. Featuring multiple changes, the third generation Tucson gets improved exterior, interior stuffed with plethora of equipment and choice between 2.0 litre diesel & petrol units. Power is transmitted through a six-speed unit available in automatic and manual gearboxes.

Embracing Hyundai’s popular Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design tenet, Hyundai Tucson India model has an imposing exterior profile with key styling elements like hexagonal grille with multiple chrome slats, swooping head-lamps, sloping roofline, sporty bumper and wrap-around LED tail-lamps.

Inside, it sports leather seats and splash of leather is also seen around steering wheel as well as instrument panel. In terms of equipment, the new Hyundai Tucson arms a host of features, an integrated touchscreen infotainment system sits on the console whereas the panoramic sunroof is optional.

The premium SUV sources power from the 2.0 litre, diesel unit pumping out 182bhp and a 2.0 litre petrol unit churning out 153bhp. Both these engines are paired to a six-speed manual transmission with a choice for a six-speed automatic gearbox. It also comes with an option of Sport, Drive and Eco modes, but misses out on an all-wheel drive option.

The diesel powered Tucson is claimed to run up to 18.42km/l and the petrol variants can return 13.03km/l. In terms of performance, Hyundai claims to have curbed the NVH levels and drag coefficient.
