Yes that phrase is one I heard for the first time many years ago. And it always took me back to when the settlers first decided to venture beyond the east coast of present-day USA. What that must’ve been like – discovering new lands, exploring vast terrains and crossing mighty rivers. We will undertake a similar journey, albeit with the benefit of living in the developed world! And with two capable and reliable steeds to ride!

The Great Overland Adventure takes on the journey many dream of doing. Coast to coast in the continental United States of America. We don’t aim to make a straight-line dash, but instead plan to visit places and meet people – that matter. Automotive history, Americana on the road, the natural sights, music and culture, and the awesome food! Yup we get to cover it all.

We start our Amercian diary from the grand city of New York, we all are super excited and thrilled!

The journey will cover almost 6500 kms, and we begin on the east coast at the point many first arrived in the USA – New York City, New York. We begin our drive westwards through New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio and on to Michigan which is home to Motown itself – Detroit. Then it is south west through Illinois and into Indiana where we head to the heart of US Motorsport at Indianapolis. A near-straight line west will see us crossing Missouri, Kansas and head to Colorado which is home to the legendary Pikes Peak. Then it is on to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, down to the famed Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, and then through Nevada into the Golden State of California, where we experience the spectacular US 1 Pacific Coast highway, besides also driving across the magnificent Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco.

It promises to be a terrific ride, and I cannot wait for it to unfold! And I hope we get lots of surprises, and maybe some detours along the way – all happy ones though!
