When you think of Mexico, the first words that come to mind are sombreros, mariachi bands, tequila, and tacos. Needless to say, there’s a lot more to Mexican culture than these clichés – something we hope to uncover during this leg of the #GLAadventure.

We have also been warned to only drive during the day, as some of states that our route passes through are known to be a little tricky – especially considering that our cars attract a fair amount of attention (to say the least).

The tourism departments of these states, though, have been incredibly helpful and they’ve offered to provide a security detail to lead our convoy through. In fact, all the countries that we’re driving through on this leg – Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama – have been extremely helpful and accommodating before the start of this journey.

After discovering the beauty of Europe, Africa and North America, Great OverLand Adventure is out on the streets to undertake another adventure – driving through Central America towards South America.

One of the things that we aim to uncover during the #GLAadventure is the fact that most of the bad news that you hear and read about is blown out of proportion – and that the world is largely safe, friendly and welcoming.

We start our journey in Chihuahua State in Mexico, and make our way South towards Mexico City, visit the small mountain town of San Cristobal in Chiapas State, before crossing the border to Guatemala.
